VERMONT ROUTE 100
Vermont State Route 100 begins its northward path in Stamford, VT and bisects the state from its bottom at the Massachusetts border to its top in Newport, which is just a bit short of the Canadian border.
Route 100 is a continuation of Massachusetts Route 8 which runs north from the town of North Adams. This two lane road meanders a little over 200 miles through some of the most beautiful and peaceful countryside in the world. It is one of the longest and most scenic drives you will ever see.
In his article Northward Ho, Allen Adler writes, "Route 66 may have had its minstrels but Vermont's Route 100 is no slouch in highway legendry. Prior to the advent of the Interstate system, skiers headed north in our state, skidded and slid to their destinations up what was then known as the Skiers' Highway."
Far from being just a skier's highway, Route 100 is a pure pleasure to drive in any season.
